Kairos was fully accredited
by the Commission on Accreditation of
Rehabilitation Facilities in November of 2006 and 2009. Our current
tri-annual accreditation continues thru October of 2012. Current full CARF
accreditation includes adult, adolescent and child mental health and substance
abuse treatment. Kairos is fully accredited for both outpatient and residential
services.
Kairos possesses a standard state
license as a Detoxification,
Residential and Outpatient Substance Abuse Program. Our current
license (#750157) was issued by the
Michigan Department of Community Health, Bureau of Health Systems. Kairos is
licensed as an Integrated Treatment
Provider focusing on the treatment needs of patients with co-morbid
mental health and substance abuse issues. Since we treat patients under the age
of eighteen, Kairos Healthcare also possesses a license and designation as a
Child Caring Institution (#CI730255999). This license was issued by
the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services, Bureau of Family

Insurance (or
lack thereof)
- Kairos
Healthcare is experienced in providing treatment services to the un-insured,
under-insured and Medicaid populations managed by Pre-Paid Health Insurance
Plans and Coordinating Agencies throughout the state. As of this writing, Kairos
is contracted with twelve (12) PIHP’s and CA’s to deliver adolescent residential
substance abuse treatment. Kairos also accepts most commercial insurances
for detoxification, residential and outpatient substance abuse services. Call

Detoxification alone is rarely adequate treatment for AOD dependencies. When
using medication regimens or other detoxification procedures, medical staff
should use only protocols of established safety and efficacy.
Providers must advise patients when procedures are used that have not been
established as safe and effective. During
detoxification, providers should control the patient’s access to medication to
the greatest extent possible.
Initiation and management of withdrawal should be individualized.
Whenever possible, medical staff should substitute a long-acting medication for
short-acting drugs of addiction. The
intensity of withdrawal cannot always be predicted accurately. Every
means possible should be used to ameliorate the patient's signs and symptoms of
alcohol and other drug withdrawal.
Patients should begin participating as soon as possible in follow-up support
therapy such as peer group therapy, family therapy, individual counseling or
therapy, 12-step recovery meetings and Alcohol and Other Drug recovery
educational programs. The
Kairos Adolescent Detoxification Unit meets the standards set forth by Blue
Cross Blue Shield of Michigan related to medical detoxification in a free
standing facility which include:
Physical exam within 24 hrs. of admission to include but not limited to DSM-IV R
diagnosis Medical
follow up weekly by Physician or Physician Assistant Nursing
care – 24 hours per day, 7 days a week
Supportive therapy and counseling
Individual, group and family counseling
Transition to continued care according to the needs of the consumer The Kairos triage process developed in conjunction with the Kairos
Medical Director includes all of the following:
The method used in determining the level of urgency of need of each
individual client.
Identification of the services to be performed, including transportation
if necessary.
The method of assigning the priority of required services
All assessments are performed by
clinicians who are Master’s prepared or higher. Therapists assessing
dually diagnosed adolescents must have at least five years experience in mental
health and substance abuse treatment. Physicians and nurses are professionally
prepared and experienced in working with youth who suffer from substance abuse
and mental health issues.
Family Involvement
- Kairos mandates family involvement. This includes family therapy sessions as
appropriate during the adolescent’s detoxification/residential/outpatient course
of care. In
these family sessions, each clinician is entrusted with the task of helping the
family to understand the effect of the family on the adolescent and the effect
of the adolescent on the family. When this is accomplished, understanding and
family goals can be established and processed over time.

Experience

It may occur
that patients referred to Kairos Healthcare for detoxification may require
medical or psychiatric hospitalization. Kairos has an excellent track record
working with Covenant Healthcare when medical hospitalization is required. We
also work closely with Healthsource of Saginaw when a youth requires psychiatric
hospitalization.
